  1. A certain amount of hair is shed daily. This is nature's method of making way for new hair. The average daily shedding is estimated at 50 to 80 hairs.

  2. The average growth of hair on the scalp is about one-half inch per month.

  3. The number of hairs on the head varies with the color of the hair:
    1. Blonde -- 140,000
    2. Brown -- 110,000
    3. Black -- 108,000
    4. Red -- 90,000

  4. The average area of a head is about 120 square inches. There are an average of 1,000 hairs to a square inch.

  5. Hair is an appendage of the skin. It is a slender, thread-like outgrowth of the skin of the human body. There is no sense of feeling in the hair due to the complete absence of nerves in its structure.
